TRANSLUNAR, a design studio based in Colorado, has introduced AURORA — a new work that merges ambient light with immersive sound, rethinking how technology interacts with everyday space.
Rather than positioning it as a conventional product, TRANSLUNAR approaches AURORA as a response to evolving ways of living, where aesthetics and function are increasingly inseparable.
AURORA moves beyond traditional single-function design by seamlessly integrating dynamic lighting with high-fidelity sound, creating an immersive sensory experience. Whether casting a calm, intimate glow or enriching a space with full-bodied audio, AURORA adapts intuitively to its surroundings — shaping mood through both light and sound.
“We weren’t interested in spectacle,” the TRANSLUNAR team noted. “We wanted to design something that feels emotionally intelligent — something that knows how to disappear and reappear when needed.”
Despite its sculptural form, AURORA delivers a surprisingly refined sound performance. A custom-engineered 30W coaxial driver is seamlessly integrated into the carbon fiber light head — a structural solution that preserves its visual lightness while maximizing spatial acoustics.
The result is a compact sound system that fills a room with clarity and nuance, without calling attention to itself.
AURORA features a 50W independent subwoofer with a long-stroke design and a high-sensitivity driver system, enabling it to handle low frequencies down to 38Hz. This design ensures that the bass maintains clarity and presence without overpowering the overall sound.
The system incorporates professional-grade DSP (digital signal processing) to refine the frequency response, ensuring smooth transitions between low, mid, and high ranges. This attention to detail allows AURORA to deliver a balanced and natural sound experience, where each frequency range complements the others.
AURORA integrates Bluetooth 5.1 technology with aptX lossless audio transmission, offering a fast and stable wireless connection for high-quality sound. The lighting system of AURORA features 72 high-quality LED sources, with adjustable warm and cool lighting.
